Henrik I had the honor to see BTJ while on vacation. Never heard a song by him before and I was instantly a fan. He has a great voice, good lyrics, and it was a joy to watch him play guitar and do what he loves. Favorite track: The Night Johnny Cash Quit Doing Pills.

Tell me, do you remember those nights We sat by a campfire light We passed a guitar, came from near and from far We all wanted to be a rock 'n' roll star But it all lost its thrill the night Johnny Cash quit doing pills Come here, sit down and a have listen Listen to the music that's a-playin' Sing a simple song, sing it all night long Good times, bad times, ten years gone But it all lost its thrill the night Johnny Cash quit doing pills Love me do, I wanna hold your hand Kozmic blues on the backseat of a Mercedes-Benz It's a jumping jack flash, look at that stray cat Just sittin' there in her brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat But it all lost its thrill the night Johnny Cash quit doing pills It's a red house between castles made of sand Run through the jungle or join a travelin' band All music will fade, I can't explain Still smokestack lightning beats a ball and chain But it all lost its thrill the night Johnny Cash quit doing pills Well, it's three o'clock and I'm highway bound But don't worry, baby, I get around I've just seen a face, we gotta get out of this place I'm talkin' 'bout my generation, all confused and dazed It all lost its thrill the night Johnny Cash quit doing pills, oh, that’s right Well, it all lost its thrill the night Johnny Cash quit doing pills Well, it all lost its thrill the night Johnny Cash quit doing pills

Got a hole in my pocket, don't know what to do Got a hole in my pocket, don't know what to do Tried to stretch my money, but it ain't enough for you You wonder who, who's gonna pay the bill You wonder who, who's gonna pay the bill No second thought, honey, yes, I will I'll be there, honey, if you call I'll be there, honey, if you call I gave a little bit, I'd give it all You wonder who, who's gonna pay the dues You wonder who, who's gonna pay the dues No second thought, honey, yes, I do For everything you take, you have to give something back For everything you take, you have to give something back If you have unpaid debts, they'll come to collect You wonder who, who's gonna pay the fee You wonder who, who's gonna pay the fee No second thought, honey, yes, it's me Got a hole in my pocket, don't know what to do Got a hole in my pocket, don't know what to do Tried to stretch my money, it ain't enough for you

Watch your step, boy, don't act like a fool Watch your step, boy, don't act like a fool Bootleg Sam had a shop across town The law went there and closed it down Well, watch your step, boy, don't act like a fool, I mean Don't mess with a mule Don't take a risk, boy, just play by the rules Don't take a risk, boy, just play by the rules The liquor he sold for twenty cent Well, it made a snail jump the fence So, don't take a risk, boy, just play by the rules, I mean Don't mess with a mule Leave the booze, boy, just eat your gruel Leave the booze, boy, just eat your gruel Never smelled nothing that smelled that bad Now that he's gone everybody's glad Well, leave the booze, boy, just eat your gruel, I mean Don't mess with a mule Stagger your sleep, boy, take care of the cruel Stagger your sleep, boy, take care of the cruel Well here's my advice: In the end not everybody will forgive a sin So, stagger your sleep, boy, take care of the cruel, I mean Don't mess with a mule, I mean Don't mess with a mule

One look, one look, one word and one call One look, one look, one word and one call One little mistake, one can wreck it all Early in the morning at the breakfast table Talking with the girl from last night She says, “Oh, boy, it was kind of special!” Comes a little closer, wants to look in your eyes But beware: one look, one word and one call One little mistake, one can wreck it all Well, it's a shooter's fear before the shot Because he knows about a goalkeeper's luck If he succeeds, he will be a hero for a night But if he fails, he will be a fool for the rest of his life One look, one word and one call One little mistake, one can wreck it all Well, don't change your friends to enemies even if you want to 'Cause there might be something they can do for you So, when you got some good friends that will stay by your side Give them some of your spare time, better love and treat them right But beware: one look, one word and one call One little mistake and one can wreck it all Oh, one look, one look, one word and one call One little mistake, one can wreck it all

In the morning I watch the sun rise In the morning I watch the sun rise In the morning I watch the sun rise It only brings tears to my eyes It only brings tears to my eyes My shoes are dirty from gravel and mud My shoes are dirty from gravel and mud My shoes are dirty from gravel and mud That's all that's left and all I've got That's all that's left and all I've got We've been through heaven but ended up in hell We've been through heaven but ended up in hell We've been through heaven but ended up in hell Never again I'll trust a wishing well Never again I'll trust a wishing well Should've traded my heart for a lucky hand Should've traded my heart for a lucky hand Should've traded my heart for a lucky hand Mr. Hopkins, please, sing your song again Oh, Lightnin' Hopkins, please, sing your song again I see that evening sun go down I see that evening sun go down I see that evening sun go down Yeah, I believe I'm gonna leave this town Yeah, I believe I'm gonna leave this town We've been through heaven but ended up in hell We've been through heaven but ended up in hell We've been through heaven but ended up in hell Never again I'll trust a wishing well Never again I'll trust a wishing well

You should have told me 'bout those road works I could have been earlier at yours You should have told me 'bout those road works I could have been earlier at yours But I arrived too late and saw another man at your door Well, the fastest way is Highway 51 But there are stupid road works going on You should have told me 'bout those road works I could have been earlier at yours But I arrived too late and saw another man at your door Wanted to take the fast train, but the train just didn't come Couldn't control my tears, my heart was beating like a drum You should have told me 'bout those road works I could have been earlier at yours But I arrived too late and saw another man at your door So, I ran to the bus stop – almost out of breath Just to realize the bus already left You should have told me 'bout those road works I could have been earlier at yours But I arrived too late and saw another man at your door Well, I called for a taxi, but no taxi could be found Felt like chains that bound me to the ground You should have told me 'bout those road works I could have been earlier at yours But I arrived too late and saw another man at your door You should have told me 'bout those road works You should have told me 'bout those road works You should have told me 'bout those road works You should have told me 'bout those road works You should have told me 'bout those road works Could have been earlier at yours

I watch the rain fall down, rain fall down I believe I lose my mind I watch the rain fall down, rain fall down I believe I lose my mind My bed feels like barbed wire I'm caught in a double bind Somebody please loan me a dime, loan me a dime Well, I need, I need a helping hand Somebody please loan me a dime, loan me a dime I need a helping hand It was all rigged in advance Judge and jury already took their stand Wish I was back in the city, back in the city Won't somebody please take me there Wish I was back in the city, back in the city Somebody please take me there Bail me out if you please I'm falling into blank despair Wish I could holler, wish I could holler Just like, just like a mountain cat Wish I could holler, wish I could holler Just like, just like a mountain cat Well, the doctor diagnosed my case He said, “Poor boy, it's awful bad!” I'm just too frail to walk, too frail to walk I sup sorrow like the poor I'm too frail to walk, too frail to walk I sup sorrow like the poor Oh, I might get better someday But I'll never get well no more Well, I might get better someday But I'll never, I’ll never, I’ll never get well no more

The Promise 04:19
The lights went out in the lonesome motel It's still the brightest place around Even if we run out of luck, darling, I won't let us down We thought we had nothing to lose but I believe it ain't no shame To admit we abandoned all hope For a promise even God forgot he made Life is what you make of it That's what the people say But why worry how to make it through tomorrow if you can't make it through today I've seen heartaches and strife and worries lined up in a parade I don't know why I still count On a promise even God forgot he made Down in this place where the sun never shines And the shadows hide from themselves You seek for an easy way out at the expense of someone else I ain't going back, I ain't got the time, the clock says quarter to eight Is it just another magic trick Or a promise even God forgot he made? Last night I dreamed 'bout a stranger She looked a lot like you She said, “I broke them all!” I said, “Maybe a few!” I ain't gonna do like I've done before, take away my sin and give me grace It will take me years to overcome The promise even God forgot he made

about

For Peter Wahl; patron of the blues and friend.

All guitars used on these recordings are exclusively resonator guitars made by Peter. Some of them were miked perfectly to capture the lovely acoustic sound of the guitars, others were burning hot with the help of an overdriven tube amp. I feel privileged to own an arsenal of those astonishing guitars, call Peter a friend and an advocate of my music.
